Love and Life

Every one of us is born with a miraculous opportunity, the gift of life force and consciousness. This life force
is delicate and powerful, and a great mystery. How can we adequately explain 80 cents worth of chemicals (the raw materials of our bodies) holding together with such exquisite harmony? We have approximately three trillion cells in our bodies and they are all co-operating!

The good news is that they will continue to co-operate for the genetically programmed life span of 120 years,
as long as we don’t muck it up by ignoring the natural principles: good nourishment, clean water, fresh air, appropriate sunlight, adequate exercise and ample rest. Each of these is mandatory for good health. They are the essential conditions which enhance and prolong human life.

Yet there is something more fundamental for a healthy life ... LOVE! Without love you will generate disharmony as surely as night follows day.

No, I’m not talking about that state of emotional derangement referred to as “falling in love”. The state I wish
to describe is one of emotional equanimity. It is accompanied by a positive mental attitude and an understanding of the interconnectedness of all life.

Love is aware of the grand cycles of life and the long tradition of human resiliance. Love is the absence of doubt, worry and anxiety. Love is the presence of good will, the willingness to face life without prejudice, without pre-judging.

“That’s all very well”, I hear you say, “but I’m up to my eyes in personal debt and emails”. Well good health
and a positive mind state require some effort; and might I remind you that the average forty year old has got approximately 2,000 weeks of life left.

Maybe it’s time you got on the case!
