The Evolution of Life This is a 5 page, general overview of the evolution of life and consciousness from the perspective of Natural Science by Damian Carey. In the previous chapter of this section I spoke about massage in the context of Natural Therapy, which is the process whereby human beings can align themselves more fully with the natural laws of the universe and thereby achieve greater health. In this chapter I will develop that theme by presenting a general overview of the evolution of life and consciousness from the perspective of Natural Science. The fundamental quality of the physical universe is movement. Quantum physics tells us that, if we look closely enough, there really is no such thing as matter, there is only the vibrations and pulsations of energy. Everywhere we look we can perceive movement and its cyclic repetition: the vibration of sub atomic particles, the ebb and flow of the tides, the waxing and waning of the moon, the rhythm of the seasons, the spinning of the planets and the spiralling of the galaxies. Everything appears to consist of rhythm and movement. The human body itself reflects this pattern with the beating of the heart and the pulsing of the blood, the rhythm of the lungs and diaphragm. We can also observe the rhythmical patterns of waking and sleeping and the gradual growth and decline of the body over the full span of its life. We can conclude that when the flow of energy in a human being is synchronised with the universal flow, the being will be in a state of health. If we are loose and free, if our joints are supple, then we will experience more joy in the body, we become more in tune. To be in tune with life leads not only to a loose body but also to a freely moving mind, unprejudiced, unobsessive, clear thinking and accepting of changes. Adaptability and flexibility are all indications of a being that is alive and well. Conversely someone who is out of tune with natural rhythm will reflect this in their body with hard muscle tissue, inflamed nerves, stiff joints and stagnant blood. If the natural movement of life force is disrupted, disharmony or disease inevitably arise.
